MANAGER QUALIFICATIONS

1. Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders

>> Must be complete before the manager can be added to the team's official roster

>> Important: You will need an Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) number prior to registering for any Respect in Sport course (see instructions below).

Respect in Sport Course link: https://www.hockeyalberta.ca/members/respect-sport/

Be sure to select Respect In Sport Coach, not the Parent course.

2. Vulnerable Sector Check

  • All Team Officials (head coach, assistants, trainers, and managers) must provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Check to BRMHA. Team treasurer's do not require a VS Check.
  • This is a requirement of our association, not Hockey Alberta.
  • BRMHA considers all Vulnerable Sector Checks to be valid for 3 hockey seasons from the date issued.
  • If you require a new VS Check, please contact registrar@battlerivermha.ca for more information on how to obtain one.
  • VS Checks are due Nov. 1st.

3. Hockey Canada Safety Certification (optional)

Being your team's 'safety person' is not a requirement of being a Team Manager, but some managers choose to volunteer as their team's Safety person as well.

U7 & U9

1 Coach for every 10 players is required to complete the Hockey Canada Safety Course.

U11-U18

Each team must have at least 1 HC Safety person, however it is highly recommended that each U11-U18 team have 2 HC Safety personnel. This provides more assurance that a Safety person can be present at each practice and game.

If a team's Safety person is not present during a practice/game and an injury occurs, the participant's Hockey Alberta insurance coverage may be voided.
